Antique 48-star United States flag featuring individually sewn appliqué stars, sewn red and white stripes, reinforced hoist, and metal grommets. The 48-star flag was the official U.S. flag from 1912 through 1959, prior to the admission of Alaska and Hawaii. Constructed of heavy woven fabric consistent with period wool bunting. Reinforced hoist bears a faded “U.S.” ink marking, exact significance unknown. Shows expected age and use including fading, toning, staining, fraying, loose threads, and general wear. Early-to-mid 20th century; exact age and history unknown.
